Your assignment must be at least two pages in length, not including the title and reference pages. Use a minimum of two sources. Be sure your paper is double-spaced and uses one-inch margins. Use your own words, and include citations and references as needed to avoid plagiarism. All sources used must be referenced; paraphrased and quoted material must have accompanying citations and be cited per APA guidelines.
For additional guidance on APA style, refer to the APA Paper Examples in the Learning Resources found in the Resource tab of the Student Portal.

Academic Writing
Be sure to review your assignments and my comments. Reviewing my comments will help you understand my expectations and hopefully correct errors with future assignments.
There are necessary rules applied in academic writing. First, do not write how you speak. Do not include “you” in your sentences; rather, refer to common nouns such as communicator, employee, leader, or one. When writing a narrative, you may refer to yourself as I, me, mine, my – but not you. Be cognizant of the difference between academic writing and how you talk.
Incorrect: Being self-conscious allows you to recognize others and their emotions.
Correct: Being self-conscious allows a leader to recognize others and their emotions.
Second, essays should be structured and formatted with a beginning, middle, and end. Writing an essay requires an introduction and conclusion.
Contents of an Essay
1.      Introduction
a.      Level I heading.
b.      An introduction should include a thesis, the purpose for the essay/research, and a road map for what readers can expect to learn.
c.      A paragraph is comprised of a min 3-6 sentences.
2.      Body
a.      Level II heading to delineate topic transitions.
b.      Thesis and explanation.
c.      The body should contain three topics, therefore, a minimum of three paragraphs with three separate level II headings.
d.      A paragraph is comprised of a min 3-6 sentences.
3.      Conclusion
a.    Level I heading.
b.    A conclusion is a rewritten introduction, but in past tense. It should include a thesis, the purpose for the essay/research, and a road map discussing what readers should have learned.
Lastly, APA is necessary. Essays need correct heading format to delineate transitions; double-space everything; indent the first line of paragraphs .5″; a correct citation includes Author, year, and page or para when quoting along with a full reference located on the references page; and a paragraph is comprised of a min 3-6 sentences.
There is an exorbitant amount of resources available on the Internet to help with writing.
