Students will write an informal reflection paper that introduces your interpretation of Black life at the beginning of the twentieth century, discusses your sources, and describes anything you found interesting about the Midterm Project.
In a minimum of 1000 words, students need to include the following information in the Midterm Essay:

1. Introduce American society and race relations at the turn of the twentieth century.
2. Need to include a brief overview of The Souls of Black Folk and your opinion.
3. Need to include a brief overview of the journal article on The Souls of Black Folk and your opinion. Remember, the journal article must be written by a historian and published by a journal that is affiliated with an academic institution or organization.
4. Discuss the three primary sources you found, how they relate to your topic, and what they taught you about the period being studied.
5. A bibliography is needed at the end of your paper. The bibliography is different from an annotated bibliography.

Students need to format the Midterm Essay using the Chicago Manual Style. However, you may use first person in your essay.
