Assignment 1: Proposal Topics (1 sentence)

Instructions

Consider a project for which you would submit a business proposal. This might be a design topic targeted toward a potential client, a project in need of funding, or a book project in need of a publisher.

For this assignment, propose a topic and project title. For example, you might propose an illustrated novelty book about dating in the 21st century or a photography series highlighting California ghost towns.

In preparation for launching your Collaborative Project, return to the responses to in the previous topic, Proposal Topics. In addition to the project topic you posted, select three other projects posted there that intrigue you and/or for which you can offer valuable expertise.

Assignment 3: Instructions (1-2 paragraphs)

Introduced in this module, Candid (formerly known as the Foundation Center), is a nonprofit devoted to educating and supporting nonprofits and individuals, and a resource for finding grants. Take a virtual field trip—or, if you live in New York City, take an actual field trip—to the Candid library. Go to Candid and survey their services.

Summarize what you learned and discuss how you might benefit personally from Candid’s services.

Assignment 4: (Discussion) Statement of Purpose (2 paragraphs)

Suppose a group of students wish to propose that the Academy of Art University change the design of its website. Consider what problem the students may have identified with the current website and how a redesign would benefit the Academy’s mission.

Now, consider as well what supplemental materials a team proposing to redesign the Academy website might include to strengthen their proposal.

Remember, supplemental materials should support your qualifications to propose and complete a project as well as the client’s need for what you propose.

• 1) After consulting the module pages, post a credible statement of purpose to the Class Discussion.
  • Within the same post include a list of suggested supplemental materials.
• 2) Comment on the statements of purpose and suggestions for supplemental materials posted by classmates, asking direct questions of one another to clarify. Comment on the inclusions or omissions in your classmates’ lists. Substantiate your comments.
