A Reoccurring Dream

Introduction-

While reading, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, written by William Shakespeare, the actions that some characters perform are unethical and not right at all. Some of these actions have huge impacts on character in a love rhombus throughout the play. Most specifically, Puck, Oberon’s henchman. Puck does not have a mind of his own and listens to almost everything his ruler, Oberon, tells Puck to do. Throughout the whole play, because of orders Oberon gives Puck, Pucks actions fluctuate from non-ethical actions like messing up the original love rhombus, and not wanting to correct his mistake that he made but he turns it around by correcting his mistake and then apologizing to the audience after he sweeps the stage clean.

Paragraph 1 – Messing up original love rhombus

Oberon, the King of Fairies, and Puck walk into a forest on the out skirts of town. That is when Puck encounters the lovers with each other in the forest at first, he is confused on what is going on. Then realizes some of the situation at hand. Oberon instructs Puck to fetch love powder that you can dust on people’s eyes. “Enter Quote – Act 2 Scene 1.” Puck starts traveling down a bad path after he follows these rules from Oberon. Puck loves what eventually takes place and dedicates the rest of the story around the four lovers.

“Enter quote when he talks about him “sitting back “and watching it play out” – A 3 S 1

With Puck not trying to solve what was cause by himself, it shows an evil mindset behind what he is doing. Not showing any type of love towards regular human beings since Puck “can’t be seen” because he is a fairy makes the audience believe that there is a sense of entitlement that Puck has, even though he is just a henchman.

Paragraph 2 – Not wanting to correct his mistake / correcting his mistake

Puck begins to transition when listening to Oberon. Oberon wants Puck to fix the love dust that he put on his wife, Titania, and the young Athenian lovers so not only will the relationships align with the humans, but the king and queens love will reunite to be stronger than ever before. Puck starts to show his change by exhibiting hard work in order to get everything back to normal.

“Enter Quote where he travels in and out the fog to get Lysander away from Demetrious” A 3 S2

Puck beginning to try super hard and beginning to dedicate their relationship like his life depended on it makes the play watchers weary of the change. Almost keeping the audience on their toes because the way Shakespeare writes his plays, nobody ends up with anybody at the end. Not being able to trust Puck mentally but loving what he is doing for the people around him is the bookmark to Puck turning a new page in the way he goes about life.

Paragraph 3 – Apologizing to audience after the play

After the wedding celebration for the three new married. Puck comes across the stage sweeping back and forth, back and forth. Puck breaks a major play rule by breaking the fourth wall. With Puck breaking the fourth wall it establishes that he is trying to form a relationship with the crowd. Puck shows signs of change and wants us as audience members to understand he is changing and that we are with him. “Enter Quote – Jstor Article II.” Establishing a relationship like this is like no other. It is rarely done in plays and shows that once you are a bad character you can change and become liked by many.
