Learning Goal: I’m working on a nursing writing question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.
A usually competent and neurologically intact 80 year old female of middle eastern descent wa recently diagnosed with terminal cancer in the hospital during a hospitalization for urosepsis. In the hospital the patient was not neurologically intact and the family made the decision to tell the medical staff not to disclose the terminal cancer diagnosis to the patient. The patient’s culture is strongly patriarchal. The patient is now at your clinic along with her husband, son, and daughter. The male figures of the family noticed you walking to the patient’s room and spoke with you prior to you entering the room. They told you their decision to not disclose the cancer diagnosis to the patient as they believe it will only upset her and since diagnosis is terminal there is nothing that can be done anyways. They believe telling her will hasten her death and make it more uncomfortable. What will you tell the family? What will you tell the patient? What are some ethical and moral considerations in this case?
Note: Initial answers to the discussion question must be substantive and in the range of 250–400 words. Any references should be properly cited following APA formatting guidelines
