Learning Goal: I’m working on a history writing question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.

What are all the powers and functions of the news media in our political world today? Discuss each specific media powers, not just its ability to bias the reporting, and decide whether the media is powerful in exerting influence over the American public or whether the public exerts its own power over the media? Explain your answer.

Trying to be as objective as possible, assess the capacity and likelihood of any political party active in the U.S becoming the dominant party, with its candidates winning elections most of the time for a thirty-year period, the way we saw the Democratic Party being dominant during the 1930s and onward, or the way the Republican party was dominant in the early 1900s and for decades. What are the issues that this party could champion that would help it become very popular with voters in a lasting way? If you don’t think party dominance is possible since we haven’t had any party being truly dominant in the way that parties have been historically, discuss the weaknesses of today’s parties that prevent it. Explain your reasoning.
