Reading Expectations:

It can help you to have a piece of paper with the following questions answered. Remember that we don’t allow technology during class, so notes should be handwritten or printed. Please use these questions each week to guide your reading and preparation. I may spot-check that you have these answers completed as part of your participation grade. If I find that students are not coming to class prepared for the discussion, I may be forced to quiz you on the material.

Summarize – What is this article about?

• 3-5 Sentences
• Shorter is better
• Creating a short summary = More likely to remember
• Pretend you were going to explain it to a friend

• 3 Things you liked
• Can be things you found interesting, agreed with, or disagreed with

Apply – What ideas can I relate to my own life?

• Share two examples
• You can also relate to other people or common experiences

Questions – What further questions do I have?

• 2-3 Questions
• Can be areas of confusion, ideas for further research, questions for the instructor, or questions you would pose to other classmates
