Draft an essay response to the following: In the impeachment trial of President Trump in the Senate, the House managers sought to have former National Security Advisor John Bolton called as a witness. Trump’s defense team suggested that the president would assert executive privilege to prevent Bolton from appearing as a witness. If the Senate had decided to call witnesses (which it did not) and Trump had raised executive privilege as a bar to Bolton’s appearance, the matter would likely have been brought to the courts for a ruling. Using just the assigned reading for this course, draft an essay explaining what factors the court would likely consider in this case. (I am not interested in the specific details surrounding Bolton and Trump; I am looking for your ability to recognize the appropriate standards of law.
