This Excel assignment will demonstrate the transportation problem, which is concerned with finding the minimum cost of transporting a single commodity from a given number of sources (i.e., factories) to a given number of destinations (i.e., warehouses). Note that in this problem, the demand equals the supply. There are more advanced transportation problems that deal with the situation for when the demand does not equal the supply, which is called an unbalanced problem. In an unbalanced problem, you would have had to add a dummy source if demand is greater than supply OR add a dummy destination if supply is greater than demand.
