The Artwork Written Critique

The Artwork Written Critique ( 100 Points) Allow yourself some minutes to view the artwork that you select. Write a review/critique/ response paper, (minimum of one and a half pages – double spaced) on one of the pieces designated below. The critique must be in a composition format with complete sentences and paragraphs. When writing about a work of art, the title of the piece is either underlined or written in italics. Select one of the seven pieces listed below. 1. Composition D5, by Marilee Salvador, Etching archival pigment print 2016. 2. Red Landscape, by Mia O, Woodblock print 2016. 3. Manaiakalani II, by Hana Yoshihata, seawater, acrylic pigments, Sumi ink, charcoal, pastel 2017. 4. Thunderstorm Beneath the Summit, by Katsushika Hokusai, Woodblock print: ink and color on paper 1830-1832. 5. Scamper, by Ray Yoshida, Oil on canvas, 1997. 6. Hypnotic Flight, by Kathy Muehlemann, Oil on canvas 1986. 7. Le tapis Vert, by Georges Braque, Oil on canvas, 1929. In your written critique you must answer the following questions: Describe what you see. What does it look like? 1. What do you think the process of creating the piece involved? 2. Identify any elements of design you see in the composition, such as line, shape, space, color, value, texture, pattern, and/or movement. What do they look like? Where are they? How are they arranged? 3. Describe how the principles of design such as unity, balance, scale, rhythm, emphasis/focal point, and repetition are used in the composition. 4. How do you feel about the piece? Do you like it or dislike it? Explain why. Why did you choose this piece to write about? (It’s ok to select a piece that you don’t like.) 5. Spelling counts. (I let a writer choose which of these seven piecaqwes of art to write about.)
